About HEROES:

I started this group after I had a very emotional night. I was tucking in my 10 year old son, who is autistic. He looked at me and said “mommy am I ever going to be a normal boy?” I held it together long enough for us to talk about what “normal” is. I walked downstairs and bawled. Here I am with my MS.Ed in Special Education, 14 years experience in a special education classroom, and a concentration in Autism and I am bawling. Why? I felt alone. I blame myself. This is my baby. I want him to be the best that he can be. I thought about it and decided that I was going to start a support group.

The next day, I did some research and found there were not many support groups for parents who have children with disabilities. Three months later HEROES was born and met for the first time. I couldn’t be more excited for the future of the group.
